The search for God’s words and meanings continues. And the gems that come forth are real treasure.
Atonement: this word means making amends. In the Old Testament, it meant covering of sin (uncleanness), sins transferred to a scapegoat.) But in spiritual reality, it cannot be done by humans or animals for good. No matter how hard we may try, many claiming “I have done my best-my way!” it will only end one way, complete failure to meet God’s ultimate holy standard. The only acceptable atonement is God’s own atonement, God’s Way. The only qualified atonement is Christ Jesus’ atonement. He paid for all. He paid it all. That is the true meaning of the word in God’s Book.
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.”
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Hebrews 9:22 “…and without shedding of blood there is no remission (of sin).”
26 “He (Christ) has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.”
28 “So Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many.”
10:14 “For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.”
Blood: Atonement is linked to blood, which is synonymous with ‘life’ (Gen.9:4). Christ’s blood is the only blood worth mentioning. It is the basis of the following which mankind cannot do without:
redemption: Romans 3:24-25 “propitiation by His blood”.
reconciliation: Ephesians 2:13-16 “have been brought near by the blood of Christ”.
eternal life: John 6:53-56 “whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life”.
justification: Romans 5:9 “…justified by His blood,…saved from wrath through Him”.
sanctification: Hebrews 10:29 “the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified”.
communion: Matthew 26:26-29 “drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins”.
Overcome/victorious: Revelation 12:11 “And they overcame him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb…”
Body: we cannot talk about blood without mentioning the word, body. Again, there is only one body that counts for us to enter and live the life in the Kingdom of God. The body of Jesus Christ. Jesus sacrificed His perfect body to redeem us. He was the perfect Lamb of God. Prior the cross, He gave His body to bear the thirty nine strokes for us. Because of His stripes we are healed. However, the Bible also mentioned the importance of another body, our body, which is required by God as a sacrifice to Him. Believers of Jesus have undergone a supernatural transformation, we became members of Jesus’ body, of His flesh and of His bones. Our body also became a building, a temple for the Holy Spirit. Awesome!
Hebrews 10:5-7 God prepared Jesus’ body as a perfect sacrifice, to do His will.
1 Peter 2:24 “Who Himself bore our sins on His body on the tree, that we having died to sins, might live for righteousness – by whose stripes you were healed.”
Romans 12:1 Believers are urged to present our bodies as living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God.
Ephesians 5:30 “For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.
Ephesians 1:22-23 “…to be head over all things to the church, which is His body…”
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
