A DICTIONARY FOR NAVIGATORS ON SPIRITUAL ROUGH WATERS 45: Promises (and Shield)

psalm 18:30
Today’s words are PROMISES (and SHIELD).
The wise poets in ancient days declared:
About God: He will shield you with his wings! They will shelter you. His faithful promises are your armor. (Psalm 91:4)
To God: You are my refuge and my shield, and your promises are my only source of hope. (Psalm 119:114)
I have thoroughly tested your promises, and that is why I love them so much. (Psalm 119:140)
I stay awake through the night to think about your promises. (Psalm 119:148)

The wise prophets looked into the future and proclaimed:
About What God has promised: “And all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land sparkling with happiness. These are the promises of the Lord Almighty. (Malachi 3:12)
Prophet Daniel’s prayer: “O Lord,” I prayed, “you are a great and awesome God; you always fulfill your promises of mercy to those who love you and keep your laws.” (9:4)
God likes those who keep their promises: Proverbs 12:22
God delights in those who keep their promises and abhors those who don’t.
Prophet Isaiah knows all about how God’s promises can come true:
So the Lord must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help. (30:18)

Here are some Bible verses from the New Testament on “Promises” for meditation and receiving by faith!
Romans 5:1
So now, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith in his promises, we can have real peace with him because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.
2 Corinthians 1:20
He carries out and fulfills all of God’s promises, no matter how many of them there are; and we have told everyone how faithful he is, giving glory to his name.
Galatians 3:29
And now that we are Christ’s we are the true descendants of Abraham, and all of God’s promises to him belong to us.
2 Timothy 2:13
Even when we are too weak to have any faith left, he remains faithful to us and will help us, for he cannot disown us who are part of himself, and he will always carry out his promises to us.
Romans 11:29
For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn; he will never go back on his promises.

The Power of the Holy Spirit is our shield today!
Galatians 3:5-7Living Bible (TLB)
5 I ask you again, does God give you the power of the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you as a result of your trying to obey the Jewish laws? No, of course not. It is when you believe in Christ and fully trust him.
6 Abraham had the same experience—God declared him fit for heaven only because he believed God’s promises. 7 You can see from this that the real children of Abraham are all the men of faith who truly trust in God.

A DICTIONARY FOR NAVIGATORS ON SPIRITUAL ROUGH WATERS 44: the power of Grace

2 Peter 1:2Today we again read the letter G from the Book. GRACE is today’s word. The spirit-mind man used to think of grace as a weak word and avoided it until one day when he was struck (metaphorically) by it and was caught up into a realm he had never encountered before, like being suck up into a whirlwind or like being hit by an invisible lightning rod as he lifted up his hands to worship. It was just an ordinary Sunday morning but his life was never the same after that supernatural invisible encounter in his spirit.

This is what the spirit-mind man discovered about Grace.

A supernatural power that can only come from the Almighty God.
An inexplicable sense of being immensely loved by Him.
An indescribable perception of being in the presence of His absolute goodness, faithfulness, mercy, and loving kindness, resulting in total peace and great joy.
It opens into the spiritual realm (in the Christians’ experience, an intimate relationship with God just as Jesus has taught His believers).
Some of the resultant feelings, perceptions and actual experiences are listed at random below: security, wholeness, acceptance, being valued and esteemed, favored, lifted up, built up, completely broken down and yet being made re-integrated into a whole new being, complete, honestly and transparency, freedom from fear, freedom from condemnation and judgement, clean and pure, released from heavy burden/oppression/obsession, thoughts of hope and optimism, refreshing, energized, renewed, transformed inside out, made over, re-prioritized, re-focused, re-directed, renewed in youth, rest, peace, love, joy, patience, goodness, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, self-control, and many more.
The experience is real. It has lasted decades and is still processing and ongoing.

Grace is a power word. It is authoritative, real and strong. And it transforms an individual human life. Here are some random verses quoted from the Bible to illustrate grace:

John 1:14
[ The Word Becomes Flesh ] And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:16
And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.
John 1:17
For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
Acts 4:33
And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all.
Acts 14:3
Therefore they stayed there a long time, speaking boldly in the Lord, who was bearing witness to the word of His grace, granting signs and wonders to be done by their hands.
Acts 20:24
But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
Acts 20:32
“So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.
2 Timothy 1:9
who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,
Titus 3:7
that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Hebrews 4:16
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 13:9
Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them.
James 4:6
But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
1 Peter 1:10
Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,
2 Peter 1:2
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,
2 John 1:3
Grace, mercy, and peace will be with you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

Often there is white space in between, like a white canvas background on which an artist has gently and richly added splashes of the colors of his heart, the blue and the green. Blue is for spirit. Green is for life. Spirit and Life. His love is so beautiful, filled with life and spirit.

sailing on with hope

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Sometimes he finds it hard to carry on hoping when he has waited quite long. He may feel tired and somewhat lonely when he is sailing alone facing the same tough and trying stormy or impasse situation. Yet in his deepest inner most he knows he is not alone. He has support. There are heavenly support. There are others on earth like him facing the same issue too, and silently sailing on in each respective hope-boat, fearlessly facing the same positive direction. The same goal, a safe harbor of solid rock for their weary anchor. Come what may: wind or rain or both.
Hebrews 6:18-20 New Living Translation (NLT)
18 So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. 19 This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. 20 Jesus has already gone in there for us. He has become our eternal High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.
A DICTIONARY FOR NAVIGATORS ON SPIRITUAL ROUGH WATERS 40: MORE WORDS FOR HARD TIMES
MOREMore words for hard times coping, or rather, overcoming, which is a better and stronger action word, with victory in sight. Hard times draw out the best in human, the tough ones who go on and become tougher still. The weak ones too must rise to their best and become tough and free from their bondages. Hard times test for the best in each. What victory-ensured word shall we read today from the book of victories -the Book of God, the Bible?
Yesterday we read from the alphabet L (for Look). Today we read from the alphabet M. MORE. The word is “More”.
The definition of the term “MORE”: “MORE” has something to do with “VALUE” in quantity and in quality. There are plus and minus involved in the matter. The word “More” will generate a further “More”. For that matter, the word “Less” will generate a further “Less”. Like the word “Lack”. Such quantitative terms are like an epidemics. They are reproductive.
For example: I could do with some more clothes: additional, further, added, extra, increased, new, other, supplementary. ANTONYMS less, fewer. he was able to concentrate more on his writing: to a greater extent, further, some more, better.
More of what for hard times combat? This is the crux of the matter. Let us read on from the Holy Bible New Living Translation (NLT). The boldness and the italics are added. My own notes are in bold letters and italics as well.
First, Jesus says what God values. He values your life far more than you can ever imagine.
Matthew 10:31 So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.
Second, Jesus asks you to value your life too, above all else.
Matthew 16:26 And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?
Thirdly, Jesus says that you have far more resources and power to do things (even like Jesus does) than you can ever imagine.
Matthew 21:21 Then Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth, if you have faith and don’t doubt, you can do things like this and much more. You can even say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen.
Fourthly, when God gives you something He gives you the power to multiply. It is expected that you generate “MORE”.
Matthew 25:19-21, 2919 “After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money. 20 The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’ 21 The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together![a]’ 29 To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.
A DICTIONARY FOR NAVIGATORS ON SPIRITUAL ROUGH WATERS 39: MORE WORDS FOR HARD TIMES
hard times contrastHard times are the number one concern to every individual, not to mention those with a family to feed. Hard times means a lack. Lack of sufficient resources. Lack of the usual stuff that we consider constituting physical, mental and emotional security and well being. Increasingly we hear of news of certain economic phenomena that gives us this sense of lack and the resultant loss. Loss of assurance. Loss of peace. Loss of comfort. Hard times means moving away from our comfort zone. Is there a way out? Today we read a word that points to a ray of light. A word of encouragement in hard times.
The word: LOOK. BEHOLD. Look. Jesus said, look.
If we can only see grim pictures, Jesus would not have urged His followers to look. The word “Look” is very pertinent today. Since Jesus Himself has urged us to look, we need to look. But what shall we look at which will counter hard times?
“Behold, a sower went out to sow.” (Matthew 13:3) This is what Jesus talks about when He meets the multitude. The people have come to see what good things He can give them. Free food. Free healing. Free deliverance. Even political and military positions and related material and social benefits. Sure. Jesus is fully capable of feeding thousands of hungry people without charging money. He does not even have to spend money to buy all those food. He just makes them appear out of thin air using fives loaves of ordinary bread and two normal fishes. Jesus is also fully capable of calling down heavenly armies to fight His just war and conquer the evil earthly kingdoms. He has the divine supernatural authority and power to as the Son of God to do what He wants if needed.
But Jesus does not talk about His power and authority as the Son of God. He does demonstrate them in His healing and deliverance ministry and in His teaching of God’s words about the Kingdom of God. But in general He teaches something else. He talks about everyday living of the ordinary man who encounters hard times as shepherd, fisherman, farmer. He often addresses a common profession: farming. Sowing of seeds for crops. This is the generic profession for all of us today. He speaks of the chances of failure and success in getting a good crop. Some will fail. Some will succeed. Interestingly He does not talk about economic conditions like recessions. He only speaks of one criteria. The soil condition. But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” (Matthew 13:8) Jesus also links economic sowing of seeds with the spiritual sowing of God’s words:But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”” (Matthew 13:23)
Do we need to fear hard times then? The Bible has a classic example of a man who sowed in hard times. Abraham’s son, Isaac reaped harvests of hundred-fold when all others suffered famine. he became very rich because of his sowing in hard times.
This is how the Bible describes his success: (Genesis 26:1-6; 12-14)
There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, in Gerar.
Then the Lord appeared to him and said: “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land of which I shall tell you. Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your descendants I give all these lands, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father. And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed;because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.”
So Isaac dwelt in Gerar.
12-14 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the Lord blessed him. 13 The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous; 14 for he had possessions of flocks and possessions of herds and a great number of servants. So the Philistines envied him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~Brief biography taken from various sources*

Rev. Kenneth Erwin Hagin (August 20, 1917 – September 19, 2003), known as the “father of the modern faith movement,” served in Christian ministry for nearly 70 years.

Kenneth E. Hagin was born with a deformed heart and an incurable blood disease. Those conditions left him paralyzed and bedridden at the age of 15. Everyone around him told him to prepare for death. But he got light on Mark 11:23–24, and that sparked faith for healing in his young heart. On August 8, 1934, God raised Kenneth off the sickbed—completely healed and whole! At that moment, God birthed something greater in Kenneth E. Hagin—a desire to see the lost saved and the sick made well. He began to preach and teach salvation and divine healing wherever he went.

Hagin began an itinerant ministry as a Bible teacher and evangelist in 1949. He was also a part of the Voice of Healing Revival in the U.S. in the 40s and 50s. In 1950, the Lord spoke to Kenneth E. Hagin and told him, “Go teach My people faith. I have taught you faith through My Word, and I have permitted you to go through certain experiences. You have learned faith both through My Word and by experience. Now go teach my people what I have taught you.” In 1967, he began a regular radio broadcast that continues today as Faith Seminar of the Air. In 1974, Hagin founded RHEMA Bible Training College USA, which now has 200 campuses in 46 nations. In 1979, he founded the Prayer and Healing School there to provide a place for the sick to come to “have the opportunity to build their faith.” Its Healing School continues to be held free of charge twice daily on the RHEMA campus. RBTC has trained over 40,000 graduates who reside and minister in more than 100 countries.

In 1968 Rev. Hagin published the first issues of The Word of Faith. That magazine, now produced nine times a year, has a circulation of over 200,000. The publishing outreach he founded, Faith Library Publications, has circulated worldwide more than 65 million copies of books by Rev. Hagin and several other authors. Faith Library Publications also has produced millions of audio and video teaching.

perfect love, he wrote again: a haiku story

the rock.jpg
the rock

He went to the rock

in time to witness the waves

spitting spurting foams

~~~~~~~He thinks he should write this letter to her to report his whereabouts. “My dearest love:
You have heard that I come to the ocean to visit the rock. Yes, I have just returned safely to my well-heated room, warm, filled with festive food and drink, slept for eight quality hours, now feeling rested and contented despite having braved the somewhat physically taxing journey in this cold alone. As you will note in some pictures you will receive, the general look is sunny but the feel of the north wind is freezing and slashing over exposed skin like sharp razor-thin blades of ice. The ocean remains innocently blue like the clear uncluttered sky. But do not be deceived -the waves rage. Being completely trusting you will not ask why I choose to proceed with such a trip in the first place to such a desolate and void wilderness. Like before, you will look at the scars and marks on my limbs and shake your head gently and sigh softly, like a light breeze that brushes my forehead unobtrusively and soothingly. “Just look at you!” You will wash and mend the gaping new wound with clean running water, wipe with a swap, apply olive oil and then pray. “Don’t hurt the same spot again, okay?” You will urge me to be careful. But you will not tell me not to go away again. You will not ask me to retire from travel like others do. You will not put fear in me.
I just want to say how much you have lifted me and built me up by your kind silence. Indeed, the physical world (the sea is the world) is not what it appears to be. Things (living and otherwise) with evil intent may try to intimidate but they will be in vain when we stay fearless. Often they use sounds, movements, volume with speed, suddenness of onslaught, and other means with the purpose to bring fear. Who will fear? A ship without an anchor and a safe unshakable anchoring place will be in fear. A ship without a clear and accurate direction will have fear too. Because it will not reach its safe and sure harbor. Sometimes I lie in bed at night far away in a distant shore from your land and wander why you do not have fear that I will be lost.
Many years ago I read of a family printing thousands of handbills to distribute all over their country because the grand-dad went out to buy a packet of cigarettes and never returned. He had forgotten to come home. They are still looking for him. Year after year on his birthday they publish an open letter signed by all his family members: children, grandchildren and their spouses, appealing for him to return. at the time of this letter he would be close to 90 or more if still alive.
I once met a young ‘derelict’ who said he had traveled from his parents’ home across the sea to become a cook without success for two years until he had lost every cent. “Why do you want to be a cook when you have no qualification or experience?” I asked after hearing his brief account. I was interested to hear perhaps a touching story of a young person who would be cook. He answered plainly, “Because I think cooking is easy.” I tried to advise him, “Return to your parents. Maybe even for a short while.” But he shook his head. He said he could not afford to call them either. I found him a factory job which gave him free board and warm meals. When I next called they said he had left after a few days as he said he still wanted to be a cook. He seemed to have vanished. You know the story ending. I never found him. Perhaps he has returned to his parents’ home. Perhaps they too have been printing handbills and plastered posters all over to find their lost son. He would be in his forties by now.
You will not ask me why I bother to recall others’ stories in my love letter. I ask myself too. I can imagine the disappointment in the readers’ thoughts. There is not even a love phrase. What kind of love letter is this?  I am not the old man who will forget to come home. Neither am I the young man who has lost himself in his unreal dream. I suppose I can relate to the common factor of love and loss in a manner. Each man is given perhaps one or more loved ones. The pain is always in the one who wants to give love. The giver loves more than the receiver. In the case of the old man I like to think that he has truly forgotten his home and those who love him. In the case of the young man too. I like to think that they do not feel the pain of being left behind. Having loved and being made to stop is a sad thing in life.
Sometimes I hear and see fear in a person. He fears because he cannot perform adequately to earn love. Fear cripples. Fear makes one flee. He wants to flee being hurt. Some flee physically. Some mentally and emotionally. What can cast out fear? You know my answer: Perfect love.
I am not saying that you and I have perfect love for each other. I am saying that you and I have one Perfect Love. The Love that will never cause us to flee from each other. Even when I cannot perform to be worthy of your love, it does not matter. The same applies for you. Perfect Love casts out fear. My love for you will not base on your performance. Neither is yours for me. Many years ago I read this verse:
“Love does not demand its own way.”
It hurts. But it gives the material to sustain love. For a long long time to come. I believe. From your beloved. “
1 John 4:18 [Full Chapter]
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
[ Love and Joy Perfected ] “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.
I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
[ The Consummation of Love ] Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.
Christian Philosophy? Pure Philosophy?
Has anyone heard of Christians having philosophy? what is Christian Philosophy? Is it the same as psychology? Or Greek philosophy? Chinese philosophy? Western philosophy? Eastern philosophy? Here is a good teaching. I quote in full an article from Andrew Wommack.
Every person views their life through a filter. For example, optimists see opportunity in every situation they face, while pessimists can only see defeat and failure. Both could be facing the same circumstances, but their filter determines how they respond. That filter could also be called their philosophy.
A philosophy is simply a way of thinking. And whether you know it or not, the direction that your life is going has been influenced and controlled by your personal philosophy or your dominant way of thinking. Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.” If that is true—and it is—then it makes sense to be sure that you are viewing your life through the right filter.
Colossians 2:8 says, “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.”
In this scripture, Paul was giving the believers in Colosse a warning. The word “beware” is being used in the sense of a sentry on guard duty. It’s a military term talking about being on guard, being on the lookout. And the word “spoil” is not talking about food; it’s talking about the spoils of war that go to the victor—the gold and silver and land.
Paul was saying to be on guard lest you be overcome by an Enemy that will strip you of your treasure, which is the truth that God has placed in your heart. That Enemy, the devil, wants to steal what God has given to you, using the world’s philosophies and the religious traditions of man.
Jesus referred to this in Matthew 15:8-9, which say, “This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”
The people believed the commandments of men more than the Word of God. They maintained a form of godliness but denied the power of the Gospel of Jesus (2 Tim. 3:5). Jewish leaders were saying that Jesus was not enough, that the people still needed to observe rituals and ceremony, and those requirements were making the Word of God of no effect in their lives: “Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition” (Matt. 15:6).
They were operating according to a philosophy, but the wrong one. Many Christians are doing the same thing today. They have bits and pieces of the Word of God filed away in their brains, but they have not meditated on them enough to change their core beliefs. When the pressures of life come, they are able to quote dozens of scriptures claiming God’s promises, but they act according to their heart values.
A good example of this can be seen in the life of one of our recent Bible college students. She’s in her sixties and a really great woman of God. She had listened to my teachings on prosperity and could quote all the related verses. Intellectually, she understood everything I taught. But at the heart level, she still had a poverty mentality, or you could say a poverty philosophy. She had been raised by parents who went through the Depression and had successfully indoctrinated her with the fear of lack. She was so fearful that she stored and hoarded everything, even keeping her money at home, not trusting banks. Although she had accumulated some money with her philosophy, she still saw herself as poor, and it affected all of her decision making. Her philosophy, or way of thinking, was actually holding her captive and limiting what God could do through her life.
If at your core, you have a philosophy—a way of thinking—that is negative, it will manifest in your life. If you see yourself as broke, sick, or a failure, it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy. On the other hand, if at your core you see yourself as prosperous, healthy, and successful, that will be what manifests in your life. So, it’s important that your philosophy is based on the truth of God’s Word.
It’s through the subtle deception of human philosophy that Satan tries to deceive us. The first example of that can be found in Genesis 3:1-5.
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
Now think about this: It says that the serpent was more subtle. The word subtle means crafty, sly, cunning, and deceptive. He wasn’t using a frontal attack to overpower Adam and Eve; he was attempting to change their way of thinking, their philosophy.
Adam and Eve began with a pure philosophy. They were completely dependent upon God and never questioned His wisdom and goodness. Satan first caused them to question God’s word, and then he caused them to question God’s goodness. He beguiled them, which is what Paul was writing about in 2 Corinthians 11:3 – “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.”
Satan has never changed his tactics. He is at work through our society and culture trying to create a philosophy that is contrary to God’s Word. He is always trying to devalue the finished work of Jesus and His Word. Sad to say, it’s working. Even most Christians today do not have their belief systems firmly in place. They are influenced more by culture, motion pictures, their upbringing, or the opinions of others than by the Word of God.
Many of you reading this letter know what the Scripture says. You have read that God wants you to prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers. You have read that by His stripes, you were healed and that Jesus came to give you life and life more abundantly. Yet when you look in the mirror, you see a failure, a loser, or a sick and defeated person. Why is that?
It’s because of your core philosophy. Maybe your parents told you that you would never amount to anything, or a previous mate convinced you that you were worthless. Or perhaps a religious leader told you that you were cursed because of your behavior, and you believed him or her. Whatever the root cause for your belief (philosophy), you are being spoiled, and your treasure is being stolen.
If that is you, then begin changing the way you think. Study and meditate in the Word of God, and change your basic core beliefs. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Heb. 4:12).
In my own life, as I began to change the way I thought, it opened the door to the blessings that God had for me all along. I was actually limiting God by my small thinking; i.e., my philosophy. You may be doing the same thing. If you are, don’t waste any more time—change your mind.
Every believer needs to have a clear biblical philosophy, and it must be based solely on the Word of God. Without it, you will be tossed to and fro with every wind of doctrine.
(the above is quoted from Andrew Wommack at this link: http://www.awmi.net/extra/article/christian_philosophy)
Have you ever asked yourself what changed when you were “born again”? You look in the mirror and see the same reflection – your body hasn’t changed. You find yourself acting the same and yielding to those same old temptations – that didn’t seem to change either. So you wonder, Has anything really changed?
The correct answer to that question is foundational for receiving from God. If you lack this basic understanding, you’ll forever ask yourself doubt-filled questions like: “How could God love somebody like me?” and “How can I possibly expect to receive anything from the Lord? I don’t deserve it, I’m not good enough!”
Spirit, Soul & Body will help you to eliminate those and other doubt-filled questions that destroy your faith. If you have trouble receiving from God, this is a must-read!
The God of Israel spoke.
    The Rock of Israel said to me:
‘The one who rules righteously,
    who rules in the fear of God,
is like the light of morning at sunrise,
    like a morning without clouds,
like the gleaming of the sun
    on new grass after rain.’
today’s answer to how to deal with grief
How To Deal With Grief ? (Click this and visit the original site of audio teaching series by Andrew Wommack)
Quote: “Grief is something that each one of us encounters sooner or later. It cannot be avoided, but it can be dealt with in a positive way. Some of the most influential people in history became better and more compassionate because of the way they dealt with grief; others were thrown into a destructive spiral. This series will help you to come out of grief on the victory side.”
The series covers the following topic:
Your Situation Isn’t Unique
It Came To Pass
God Is Not The Cause Of Our Grief
The Source Of All Grief
Here is an excerpt of the article by the same author, Andrew Wommack.
quote: “The dictionary defines “grief” as, “deep sadness, as over a loss; sorrow” (NAHD). This is not limited to, but certainly includes, the loss of a loved one. It includes the sense of loss that many feel for those who died in the terrorist attacks. People grieve over the loss of relationships, careers, youth, innocence, and many other things.
Those who have lived any length of time are well acquainted with grief and know that it is an inescapable part of life. We cannot avoid all grief, but we can avoid all the destruction that grief can cause.
One of the first things I always minister to those experiencing grief is that their situation isn’t unique. I think this is very important. One of the devil’s most deceptive ploys is to make you think that no one else knows what you are going through. There have even been songs written about, “Nobody knows the trouble I feel, nobody knows my sorrow.” That just isn’t true.
The Scripture says very plainly, “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man” (1 Cor. 10:13). Any situation you find yourself in is not only experienced by others, but it is a common experience to us all. This is very important to understand. If Satan can make you believe your situation is unique, then you automatically exempt yourself from all help that is available. Regardless of how others attempt to help, you remain beyond their reach because, in your mind, they haven’t experienced your loss and therefore can’t understand or help you. That isn’t true….
In the early days of our ministry, people stayed away from our meetings by the droves. I was having a hard time coping with that. It was causing me grief. Then I went to some of Kenneth Copeland’s first public meetings.
He rented the Will Roger’s Memorial Auditorium in Fort Worth for a three-day meeting. That auditorium seated 3,500, but he only had one or two hundred there at the most. When I saw that Kenneth was experiencing the same numbers problem I was, it really encouraged me. It didn’t bless me that people weren’t coming to his meetings, but I took courage that someone whom I knew was anointed was experiencing the same problems that I was.
 Those experiencing grief need to see that others have experienced similar things and have lived through it. In fact, people go on to thrive, not just survive. ..
Another very comforting thing to remember in a time of grief is that the situation is only temporary. One of my favorite phrases in the Bible is, “It came to pass.” That’s why it came: to pass. No tragedy is permanent. Even death is only a temporary separation.
This is exactly the logic the Apostle Paul used to comfort those who had lost someone they loved. ..
Death is not a permanent split for believers. It is just a long separation. We will be united with those who have died. Remembering this will bring comfort (1 Thess. 4:18) and can even provide a lot of positive motivation.
Putting all our tragedies into the perspective of eternity also minimizes their impact on us. .. Romans 8:18 says, “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
Paul suffered more persecution than any of us ever have…
His affliction wasn’t light because it was less than ours, but because he put it into a different perspective. He said his afflictions were light because they were “but for a moment” (2 Cor. 4:17). After a million years in the presence of the Lord, all the hardships of his life would seem like nothing. That’s true for all of us.
I once had a woman tell me about her terrible situation and ask for prayer for her marriage… I said, “Now, let me get this straight. You aren’t a Christian, and you know you are headed for hell; yet you want me to pray for your marriage and not your salvation?” She said, “Yes.” I said, “After you’ve been burning in hell for a thousand years, you won’t even care whether you were ever married or not. Your marriage isn’t the important thing. We need to pray for your salvation!” She agreed and I had the privilege of leading her to the Lord! We then prayed for her marriage…
 Probably the most important thing I minister to those experiencing grief is that God is not the source of their grief. I believe this is absolutely essential. Anyone who believes that God directly causes their grief, or indirectly allows it to happen, is headed for trouble.
Many people are totally shocked at that last statement…
Look at 2 Peter 3:9. It says, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” You can’t get it any clearer than that. It is not God’s will for any to perish, but they do…
 The Lord does everything possible to stop people from going to hell. He sent His only begotten Son to earth to bear our sins. He sent His Holy Spirit to convict us and draw us to Him. He sends laborers across our paths. Any person who goes to hell will have to climb over all these roadblocks that the Lord has put in their way. It’s not God allowing them to go to hell. It’s people’s own free will that God gave them which causes their destruction, not God…
The Lord is not insensitively standing by and allowing us to suffer. He is touched with our feelings (Heb. 4:15) and has sent His Holy Spirit to comfort us in whatever trial may come (2 Cor. 1:3-4).
This article covers only a very small portion of the material included on my four-part album entitled, How To: Deal With Grief. This is not just for those who have lost loved ones. It will reveal principles that will work to overcome all of life’s disappointments.”
how to deal with grief
“A dictionary for navigators on spiritual rough waters” chapter 25 – the power of words
Here we are, at the cross road of life. We each know the place from which we have come. We do not know where we are going. We each must choose now. Indeed, the more we read the words of God, the more we realize how little we know God. How can we ever know our Creator? How can the clay ever know the Potter?
Potter leaves mark on the product of his hands. God our Creator leaves mark in us. We are created in His image. Even though we have fallen (since Adam) and come short of His glory, there are marks of God in some of us which are still discernible, the compassion, goodness and mercy of God. But we want to know Him more and be more like Him.
Here we are, at His manual again.
today we look at the power of God’s words.
A most power word in the Bible is: I. When the word ‘I’ is spoken by God. We read Leviticus 26 ( I encourage you to read the whole chapter yourself. You can read the Bible online if you do not have a hard copy.)
2 “I am the Lord.”
“If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, I will send you the seasonal rains.
“I will give you peace in the land, and you will be able to sleep with no cause for fear.
“I will look favorably upon you, making you fertile and multiplying your people. And I will fulfill my covenant with you. 10 You will have such a surplus of crops that you will need to clear out the old grain to make room for the new harvest! 11 I will live among you, and I will not despise you.12 I will walk among you; I will be your God, and you will be my people.13 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so you would no longer be their slaves. I broke the yoke of slavery from your neck so you can walk with your heads held high.”
What an awesome God! He spoke all these on His own accord. He offered the best ever to His people. Because He is God, He means every word He speaks. They will all come to pass. His words had never failed. So the ‘I’ declared by God is really a most powerful word we have ever heard.God's power in us
“A dictionary for navigators on spiritual rough waters” chapter 22 –word logic
It is not strictly appropriate to use the word logic to explain spiritual words  But we use it for just this one Due to keyboard malfunctioning a lot of substitute words are used here in lieu of the original better words You find out the alphabets not used The enter function and a lot of  typing keys are lost too  But it does not deter today’s determination of this spiritual work Why do I talk about word logic? Here is a present day reason I often heard parent asking for prayers and complaining their children no longer obey parents unlike the olden days They also use one Bible phrase -self control as a prayer need for their children “please pray for self -control for ____” they urged But we know that self-control is the last fruit in the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit The truth is: you need to manifest the nine fruits in sequence and in all and not just an isolated one! The Holy Spirit is one and not divided into separate parts  You do not show one last fruit suddenly without the Holy Spirit or if you are already born again by the Holy Spirit then you let the Holy Spirit work in you and override your own flesh nature before you show the nine fruits So first thing get your kids to be born again Then be baptized and be filled by the Holy Spirit and then be led by the Holy Spirit and then the fruits will appear and the last of the fruits will be your longed-for self -control! For information asking kids to obey parents will not get you anywhere Only the Holy Spirit helps your kids read and follow the Bible You and your kids need God the Holy Spirit (for past ten years you kept quarreling with your kids as they refused to obey you what make you think they will suddenly respond positively to this phrase “obey your parents” without the power of the Holy Spirit?) Start building today afresh with the Holy Spirit Jesus said your Father is pleased to give you the Holy Spirit
Galatians 5:16-26
New Living Translation (NLT)
Living by the Spirit’s Power
16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. 17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. 18 But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.
19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. 25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. 26 Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another. broken society
“A dictionary for navigators on spiritual rough waters” chapter 20 – sound and mind
Sound and mind are two separate words, each having its own unique meaning. But sound does influence our thoughts. However, interestingly in English the two together “sound mind” means your mind is functional in the natural human society. The word sound takes on another meaning: rational; able to make reasonably acceptable decision; functional. All are relative to the human society as a functional entity for this world to continue its increasingly precarious existence on planet earth.
But there are deeper meaning on the spiritual realm. here are two references from the Bible. The Biblical sound mind is a spiritual mind, which functions perfectly.
In the following first case, Apostle Paul specified that Biblical sound mind means not regarding the things of God, including God’s people, according to our natural mind, but according to our spiritual mind. He also assured that we are not the mere physical natural man anymore. We have become a new creation (in the spiritual realm). So we can have a spiritual mind,  and do function more superior using this new mind.
2 Corinthians 5:12-14, 16-17 (NKJV) Be Reconciled to God : 12., …that you may have an answer for those who boast in appearance and not in heart. 13 For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; or if we are of sound mind, it is for you…then all died;…16 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
In the following second case, Apostle Paul elaborated further this sound mind. Take note that he associated sound mind with a number of crucial words and phrases: gift of God, spirit, power and love, not be ashamed of Jesus Christ, hold fast the pattern of sound words, in faith and love in Christ Jesus, and being kept by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.
2 Timothy 1:6-9; 13-14 (NKJV): Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,…13 Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. 14 That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.
The best mind ever is the mind of Christ.  1 Corinthians 2:15-16 15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. 16 For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
psalm 119-105
“A dictionary for navigators on spiritual rough waters” chapter 19 – the paradox: to think or not to think?
This blog was started because this blogger has always wanted to understand the mind or thoughts. The word “mind” has a lot of meanings. In practice, one can never exhaust the list. Why? Can you ever stop your mind from thinking of stuff? variety of stuff? All sorts of imaginations? Real and unreal? Good or bad thoughts? Who can decide what to think and what not to think?
In this blog we limit our mind to reading some Biblical passages to see what God says. It is interesting to also note how one’s thoughts affect one’s actions, whether real or unreal, rational or ridiculous. The thoughts which came from within show what one truly is. How transparent! Actions are the tell-tale signs.
Summary: It matters what we think as God observes our thoughts. When we align our thoughts with God’s purpose and promise, we cannot go wrong. Otherwise, our own thoughts can be deceptive and even cause our lives.
Genesis 6:5 The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil.
Genesis 20:11 Abraham replied, “I thought, ‘This is a godless place. They will want my wife and will kill me to get her.’ (Even Abraham did not walk by faith when he allowed his carnal man thoughts to be acted on. They almost became as he thought and acted, had God not intervened. Surely Abraham felt shame if he had truly loved Sarah).
Genesis 26:7 When the men who lived there asked Isaac about his wife, Rebekah, he said, “She is my sister.” He was afraid to say, “She is my wife.” He thought, “They will kill me to get her, because she is so beautiful.” (Isaac followed his father’s carnal man thought pattern. Like father like son.)
Genesis 38:15 Judah noticed her and thought she was a prostitute, since she had covered her face. (How his thoughts had deceived him when he walked in flesh and not in Spirit. She turned out to be his own daughter in law! )
Numbers 13:33 We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak. Next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and that’s what they thought, too!” (Ten important leaders of the tribles allowed themselves to be deceived by their thoughts and chose to forget God’s promises. In truth the enemy never thought so. The enemy heard of the greatness of God and their hearts melted as revealed later by a prostitue named Rahab, when she was consulted).
Judges 16:20 Then she cried out, “Samson! The Philistines have come to capture you!” When he woke up, he thought, “I will do as before and shake myself free.” But he didn’t realize the Lord had left him. (Samson presumed God was always with him, unaware that only when he had his hair on! Presumptious wistful thinking about matters of God cost him his life).
1 Samuel 1:13 Seeing her lips moving but hearing no sound, he thought she had been drinking. (This high priest Eli no longer heard God. He could not even discern spiritually. His carnal mind was totally wrong in conclusion).
1 Samuel 15:32 [ Samuel Executes King Agag ] Then Samuel said, “Bring King Agag to me.” Agag arrived full of hope, for he thought, “Surely the worst is over, and I have been spared!” (again, mere presumption and wistful thinking resulted in wrong conclusion. Samuel killed him!)
1 Samuel 16:6 When they arrived, Samuel took one look at Eliab and thought, “Surely this is the Lord’s anointed!” (looking at and being impressed by the physical and not the spiritual resulted in wrong conclusion even by a prophet!)
1 Samuel 18:17 [ David Marries Saul’s Daughter ] One day Saul said to David, “I am ready to give you my older daughter, Merab, as your wife. But first you must prove yourself to be a real warrior by fighting the Lord’s battles.” For Saul thought, “I’ll send him out against the Philistines and let them kill him rather than doing it myself.” (Saul did not believe what God told Samuel to tell him, that God had rejected him as king. His continuous unbelief and disobedience opened doors to further evils. How he underestimated God. He and his son were killed by the enemy instead and David, as chosen by God, was made king after him.)
2 Kings 5:11 But Naaman became angry and stalked away. “I thought he would certainly come out to meet me!” he said. “I expected him to wave his hand over the leprosy and call on the name of the Lord his God and heal me! (This patient expected the doctor to use a particular method of healing and was disappointed indeed. But God’s man walked by the Spirit and not by fixed rules, and was entirely effective.)
1 Chronicles 28:9 “And Solomon, my son, learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the Lord sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him, you will find him. But if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. (King David has the mind key: know God, align your mind-heart and plan and thought with His!)
Jesus Foretells the Future: the first of the birth pains, with more to come.
Mark 13
New Living Translation (NLT)
Jesus Foretells the Future
13 As Jesus was leaving the Temple that day, one of his disciples said, “Teacher, look at these magnificent buildings! Look at the impressive stones in the walls.”
Jesus replied, “Yes, look at these great buildings. But they will be completely demolished. Not one stone will be left on top of another!”
Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives across the valley from the Temple. Peter, James, John, and Andrew came to him privately and asked him, “Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will show us that these things are about to be fulfilled?”
Jesus replied, “Don’t let anyone mislead you, for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’[a] They will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately. Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in many parts of the world, as well as famines. But this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.
“When these things begin to happen, watch out! You will be handed over to the local councils and beaten in the synagogues. You will stand trial before governors and kings because you are my followers. But this will be your opportunity to tell them about me.[b] 10 For the Good News must first be preached to all nations.[c] 11 But when you are arrested and stand trial, don’t worry in advance about what to say. Just say what God tells you at that time, for it is not you who will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
12 “A brother will betray his brother to death, a father will betray his own child, and children will rebel against their parents and cause them to be killed. 13 And everyone will hate you because you are my followers.[d] But the one who endures to the end will be saved.
14 “The day is coming when you will see the sacrilegious object that causes desecration[e] standing where he[f] should not be.” (Reader, pay attention!) “Then those in Judea must flee to the hills. 15 A person out on the deck of a roof must not go down into the house to pack. 16 A person out in the field must not return even to get a coat. 17 How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for nursing mothers in those days. 18 And pray that your flight will not be in winter. 19 For there will be greater anguish in those days than at any time since God created the world. And it will never be so great again. 20 In fact, unless the Lord shortens that time of calamity, not a single person will survive. But for the sake of his chosen ones he has shortened those days.
21 “Then if anyone tells you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah,’ or ‘There he is,’ don’t believe it. 22 For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones. 23 Watch out! I have warned you about this ahead of time!
24 “At that time, after the anguish of those days,
the sun will be darkened,     the moon will give no light, 25 the stars will fall from the sky,     and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.[g]
lightning-volcano-puyehue fire tornado tornado lightning and fire lightning-volcano-puyehu226 Then everyone will see the Son of Man[h] coming on the clouds with great power and glory.[i] 27 And he will send out his angels to gather his chosen ones from all over the world[j]—from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven.
28 “Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near. 29 In the same way, when you see all these things taking place, you can know that his return is very near, right at the door. 30 I tell you the truth, this generation[k] will not pass from the scene before all these things take place. 31 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.
32 “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows. 33 And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert[l]!
34 “The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return. 35 You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return—in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak. 36 Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning. 37 I say to you what I say to everyone: Watch for him!”
Megatrend – Continue with the battlefield in the mind: Why are souls so easily held in captivity
The divine breakthrough has finally come when the words of truth is being obeyed and applied in our daily lives in Christ. The mindman has discovered.
The revelation: Why are souls so easily held in captivity by the enemy from the spiritual realm? Because the mind is idle and embraces anything that does not require mind function.
It started with TV program. There is no requirement of the mind to be involved. A variety of ‘entertainments’ has become easily accessible and readily available at any point of time. Unlike books or even newspapers, there is no effort on the part of the viewers -captive souls.
Now the screen is at hand in the form of mobile phone or similar digital smart pads/tablets. One can access to anything which does not require mind work at any point of time at anywhere!
The limits of time and space have been overcome. A false sense of power surges in every viewer. One can even view another person’s (even stranger’s) life in the privacy of one’s own space and time.
Really, the attraction is incomparable given the current state of the human mind.
Revelation: How are souls being captured by the enemy? Is there no defense? (Not even for the Christians’ souls -minds and emotion)?
In my previous blog I have uncovered the fact that the mind has become accustomed to symbols and short utterances in lieu of words and languages. There is no real substance in those symbols and sounds (not human sounds designed by the Creator originally for our survival as human). The replacement of real words and sounds have taken away thoughts in the mind.
Mind without thoughts. Thought without words. The new generation of ‘human’ is here.
Why are words being robbed by the enemy? Why does the enemy bother with giving such rich variety of goodies of entertainments to replace words?
The Jews and the Christians who believe in God’s words know the reason.
The words of God are the power of God. When we feed our soul (mind and emotion) with God’s words and use His words which are planted in our spirits, we are saturated with His power. The power to live the life from God. The power to overcome the devil. The power to reign as ‘more than conquerors’ through Christ who loved us. The power to live the super-abundant life promised and given by Christ Jesus.
The robbing of words from the mind is therefore a key and deadly hit.
How do Christians counter this increasingly surging violent and yet subtle tidal wave that has robbed, stolen, killed and destroyed so many minds (and happiness) in so many families?
Our weapons are:
  1. the whole armor of God. Ephesians 6:13-18
  2. the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:16
  3. sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
  4. sober mind 1 Peter 1:13-16
  5. the peace of God. Philippians 4:7
“Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy..” — 1 Peter 1:13-16 (ESV)
Philippians 4:8 New Living Translation (NLT) 8 And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
“that He (Christ) might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.” Ephesians 5:26-27 (ESV)
A word of warning on how not to pollute our minds: Proverbs 17:4 (NLT) Wrongdoers eagerly listen to gossip;
    liars pay close attention to slander.
1 Peter 4:7 New American Standard Bible
The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer.
Strong’s Concordance σωφρονοῦμεν (sōphronoumen)
Verb – Present Indicative Active – 1st Person Plural
Strong’s Greek 4993: To be of sound mind, be sober-minded, exercise self-control. From sophron; to be of sound mind, i.e. Sane, moderate. be clear-minded. NASB Translation: have sound judgment (1), right mind (2), sensible (1), sound judgment (1), sound mind (1).
A reference book for journey to God’s grace
I prayed to the Lord that I could be more discerning in the spirit and I would like to know how to worship Him like the way many people of faith do. I have recently watched the testimonies of individuals living a life of worship, for example, Heidi Baker. I was convicted that I do not really know much about worshiping God. My life has been full of activities. Even when I come before God I do the talking (praying) and hardly listening. The truth of my spiritual life opens me to wanting to move into another realm, the realm of true worship in spirit and in truth.
After I have been praying for lessons for worship, I have been led during the past few days:
  1. read psalms as I worship;
  2. pray in the Spirit and sing in the Spirit when I walk on my treadmill;
  3. read of testimonies of others who spent their lives praying and listening to God.This book of Augustine popped out when I was spring cleaning. It was a brand new little paperback hidden in the midst of a bundle of dusty forgotten A4 papers (photocopies of something). It was a gift to me 1-2 years ago. I put it somewhere and lost it during a previous spring cleaning effort.
When I flipped through this little book, I realized this is part of the answer to my request! Augustine wrote of his own conversation with God most of the time. It was an autobiography and yet it was interspersed with his frank interaction with God.
I have started using it to help me look inside too and let words of worship come forth. I pray you may use it to find your own journey to see God!
Some of the gems I found in this book:
How have You loved us, good Father? You spared not Your only Son.
Victor and Victim, and so Victor because Victim.
Priest and Sacrifice, and so Priest because Sacrifice.
You call us to understand the Word, God with God, Word spoken eternally.
By the eternal Word were all things spoken eternally.
For what was spoken was not sound after sound.
There was no consecutive march of noises, from sound concluded to the next voice.
No, all things were spoken together.
All things were spoken eternally.
To us, the future will come and go. To You it is as much now as this moment.
You surely do not change from now to then.
Your years are one day.
Your day is only today.
Your today makes no room for a tomorrow.
It does not replace any yesterdays.
Your today is eternity.
The confessions of St. Augustine (written 398-400)
Modern English Version
225 pages (This is a modernized and abridged version. )
Back Cover: “The Confessions is one of the most moving diaries ever recorded of a man’s journey to the fountain of God’s grace. Writing as a sinner, not a saint, Augustine shares his innermost thoughts and conversion experiences and wrestles with the spiritual questions that have stirred the hearts of the thoughtful since time began.
Starting with his childhood and continuing through his youth and early adulthood, this book shows Augustine as a human being, a fellow traveler on the road to salvation.
Join him on his journey. Listen in as he worships God.
If you are fighting changes in your life, struggling to know God more, or staggering around roadblocks in your faith, Augustine’s confessions will stretch your mind and enrich your soul.”
____________________excerpts from Wiki:
The work outlines Augustine’s sinful youth and his conversion to Christianity. It is widely seen as the first Western autobiography ever written, and was an influential model for Christian writers throughout the following 1,000 years of the Middle Ages. It is not a complete autobiography, as it was written in his early 40s, and he lived long afterwards, producing another important work (City of God). It does, nonetheless, provide an unbroken record of his development of thought and is the most complete record of any single person from the 4th and 5th centuries. It is a significant theological work, featuring spiritual meditations and insights.
In the work St. Augustine writes about how much he regrets having led a sinful and immoral life. He discusses his regrets for following the Manichaean religion and believing in astrology. He writes about Nebridius’s role in helping to persuade him that astrology was not only incorrect but evil, and St. Ambrose’s role in his conversion to Christianity. The first nine books are autobiographical and the last four are commentary. He shows intense sorrow for his sexual sins, and writes on the importance of sexual morality.
The books were written as prayers to God, thus the title, based on the Psalms of David; and it begins with “For Thou hast made us for Thyself and our hearts are restless till they rest in Thee.” The work is thought to be divisible into books which symbolize various aspects of the Trinity and trinitarian belief.
Outline (by Book)
  1. His infancy and boyhood up to age 14. He speaks of his inability to remember the sins he almost certainly committed during this time. Children serve as insight into what man would be if it weren’t for being socialized into waiting one’s turn. God teaches us to think of others before we think of ourselves, unlike children who cry until they are fed.
  2. Augustine finds himself amongst bad companions, which leads him to commit theft and succumb to lust. Augustine comes from a good family and has never wanted for food. In this chapter, he explores the question of why he and his friends stole pears when he had many better pears of his own. He explains the feelings he experienced as he ate the pears and threw the rest away to the pigs. Augustine argues that he most likely would not have stolen anything had he not been in the company of others who could share in his sin. Some insight into group mentality is given.
  3. His studies at Carthage, his conversion to Manichaeism and continued indulgences in lust between 16 and 19.
  4. His loss of a friend and his studies in Aristotle and the fit and the fair between 20 and 29. Augustine is overcome with grief after his friend dies in his absence. Things he used to love become hateful to him because everything reminds him of what was lost. He concludes that any time one loves something not in God, one is bound to feel such loss. Augustine then suggests that he began to love his life of sorrow more than his fallen friend.
  5. His movement away from Manichaeism under the influence of St. Ambrose in Milan at 29. Augustine begins to understand that things said simply can be true, while things put eloquently may be lacking in substance. He is unimpressed with the substance of Manichaeism, but has not yet found something to replace it. He feels a sense of resigned acceptance to these fables as he has not yet formed a spiritual core to prove their falsity.
  6. His movement towards Christianity under the influence of St. Ambrose at 30. He is taken aback by Ambrose’s kindness but still does not understand the substance of his teachings.
  7. His rejection of Manichee dualism and the Neoplatonist view of God at 31. He struggles to understand the Christian God.
  8. His continued inner turmoil on whether to convert to Christianity at 32. Two of his friends, Simplicianus and Ponticianus, tell Augustine stories about others converting. While reflecting in a garden, he hears a child’s voice chanting “take and read.” Augustine picks up a Bible and reads the passage it opens to, Romans 13:13-14. His friend Alypius follows his example. Finally, Augustine decides to convert to Christianity.
  9. His baptism done by Ambrose at 33, the death of his mother Monica, the death of his friends Nebridius and Vecundus, and his abandonment of his studies of rhetoric.
  10. Continued reflections on the values of confessions and on the workings of memory, as related to the five senses.
  11. Reflections on Genesis and searching for the meaning of time.
  12. Continued reflections on the book of Genesis. Augustine especially focuses on the language used to tell the creation story.
  13. Exploration of the meaning of Genesis and the Trinity.
My real life (10): Beware of the mind’s languages
In the previous post, the mindman realizes that there are many old variables in his mind that merely need cleaning up. But what to clean and how to clean them? This are the issues he is addressing here.
When he looks into his mind, he finds that the only substance is made up of words -mainly words in languages that he has acquired many years ago as a toddler. Amazing. The languages he learned as a toddler have remained after all these years. He is an adult now of course. Many languages have been added over the years. He learned them from family, schools, work places, churches, social groups, the streets, the markets, and the various forms (including multimedia) of reading, watching and listening materials and people too. They did not necessarily give him new languages or new words, but they persuaded his mind to accept values and interpretations, repeatedly until he thought the attachments to those languages or words were part of his belief or him.
Languages alone do not mean a thing. They are neither beneficial nor harmful. The meanings or intents rather, behind the languages are the stuff that give value (merit) or devalue (demerit) to a language.
Yes, just check the language you have in mind and you will agree. Your intent is the driving force behind the language.
When you have an evil intent, your language becomes evil. You may speak the same sentence of the same words, but you may mean two opposite outcomes when you say them at different times to different audiences. You can speak one sentence with faith (that it will happen). You can also say the same sentence with doubt (not believing that what you say will happen). You became what you thought!
This is very common in prayers. You pray but you receive what you know you actually is saying in your heart (your mind). Jesus reads thoughts (mind). God watches the heart (the mind). The Holy Spirit searches the hearts.
The serious questions are: What shall we do with such double-mindedness? What can we do to get rid of bad values or intents attached to the languages in our minds?
The mindman has found his answers in the words of God.
  1. Be single-minded. A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways and he will not receive anything from the Lord. (James 1:5-8) Why is one double-minded? Because one lacks heavenly wisdom. The Bible said that we can ask God in faith. (James 1:6) The key is to ask God and ask in faith.
  2. Put off the old man with the bad values in his mind. Put on the new man with the good values in his mind. This is easy said than done, someone may say. How can it be carried out?
Here are the practical steps according to the words of God: Ephesians 4 (read whole chapter)
Summary of Practice: Walk worthy of the calling with you were called. Ephesians 4:1b There are three steps involved:
that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,” (22)
you no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles (unbelieving) walk, in the futility of their mind, (understanding darkened, alienated from God’s life, ignorance and blindness in their mind, past feeling, given to lewdness to work all uncleanness with greediness) (17-19)
and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,” (23)
“and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.” (24)
The things to put away: lying, sin in anger, steal, corrupt words proceeding from your mouth – bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking. All these grieve the Holy Spirit. (4:25-31)
More things to put off (chapter 5): fornication, uncleanness, and covetousness. Filthiness, foolish talking, coarse jesting.
How? You have not so learned Christ! 4:20)
Read chapter five of Ephesians:
The things to put on: be imitators of God as dear children – kind, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, walk in love as Christ also has loved us…now you are light in the Lord, walk as children of light. Manifest fruit of the Spirit (goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. Walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time…understand what the will of the Lord is…be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Finally, what does all this mean and how can it be achieved? “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might…for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood…therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
The battle in the mind rages whether we like it or not. By grace and truth which already came through Jesus Christ, God has given every believer faith, His words and the Holy Spirit. These are more than sufficient in the spiritual realm for our mind renewal. The Holy Spirit enables us to walk according to the will of God. Just as Jesus had promised to all who want to follow Him, “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
For the mindman, thus, it is just a matter of learning and un-learning. Learning Christ means we need to read the Bible. We need to listen to the Holy Spirit. Un-learning evil thoughts means we substitute them with thoughts of Christ. He has found that God has indeed given the resources in the spiritual realm, and all we do is just believe and appropriate them in our daily walk with Christ.
How long is this renewing process? Well, for the mindman it is a life time walk.
The apostle Paul has very encouraging words for all who are in the same process:
“Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.” (Philippians 4:12)
A dictionary for navigators on spiritual rough waters” chapter 13: uneXpectedly; daY; amaZed.
The word that stands for Xtoday is “UNEXPECTEDLY”.
UNEXPECTEDLY”: this is a word which many Christians would want to avoid or at least delay as long as possible. But the word of Jesus is clear:
“But take heed to yourselves; lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day comes on you unexpectedly.” (Luke 21:34)
What He is saying is that that particular unexpected day will definitely come. Many will not expect it but it will still come. God’s plan for this world to end will come whether humans like it or not. No amount of human wishing or scheming will stop the clock or reverse the clock of time for this world.
“For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth.” (Luke 21:35)
What shall Christians (or rather those who believe in what Jesus said) do?
Jesus continued to say this, “Watch therefore and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.” (Luke 21:36)
Obviously, to follow what Jesus had advised, we need to stay away from those aforementioned things that would hinder us and cause us to stumble: carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life.
___________________________
The word that stands for Y” is “DAY”.
DAY”: Day is a form of demarcation used by God to signify changes in time and differences between two zones of time on earth. When He created the heavens and the earth He created light, divided the light from the darkness and called the light Day, and the darkness He called night. (Genesis 1:3-5)
Thus, when the word “day” is used to describe time, it means it is not in darkness. Day means light. Night means darkness. Interesting how humans have changed the order of lifestyle. In the Bible, the humans work during the day and rest at night. The wild beasts come out at night and hide during the day. This is a natural law. Humans are created to follow this biological clock of living.
Jesus warned the disciples of the spiritual truth in terms of day and night: “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of the world. But if one walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.” (John 11:9-10)
The apostle Paul further taught this spiritual preparedness, “And do this, knowing the time that nowit is high time to wake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.”
The word for “Z” is “AMAZED”.
“AMAZED”: why are people amazed? The Bible taught us when people saw two unusual things in what Jesus did and they were amazed (wonder, admiration, excited at what is unexpected, unfamiliar, inexplicable, strange or remarkable things). What did Jesus do?
  1. He preached the gospel of “the kingdom of God” and taught as one having authority.
  2. He spoke and rebuked the unclean spirits and cast them out of humans. The unclean spirits obeyed Him.
Amazement came when people witnessed the SUPERNATURAL POWER of GOD IN JESUS:
Power over spirits: Mark 1:21-28 depicted the incident in which Jesus set free the demon possessed man in the synagogue. The people were all amazed and quehe stioned, “What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.” (Mark 1:27)
Power over physical illness/handicap: Mark 2:1-12 Again, He healed a paralytic in a crowded house by speaking. “Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, ‘we never saw anything like this!’”
Power over death: Mark 5:35-42 He raised a dead child to life by speaking. “Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were all overcome with great amazement.”
Power in his words: He merely spoke and the supernatural signs and wonders materialized in the physical realm.
My real life (9): the mind is not a store for old variables
paradigm shift: new mind
paradigm shift: new mind
In the previous post I talked about the mind not being a fix condition. You can come out of any condition if you know the truth about it.
Then I mentioned my personal experience, that is, I have departed from the conditions set in my life. Not that they no longer exist. The change is that I do not allow my mind be bound to them, mainly a lot of ‘must-haves’. I also stated that I have lived well without the conditions. The obsessed mind is not me or anyone when the mind is bound to a ‘must-have’.
Why such a drastic action? The action is not really drastic in the physical sense. I continue to enjoy using some of the amenities and daily necessities. The reason is drastic in the spiritual and soul realm. The mind is set free. You no longer are held in bondage by stuff. You can live on even a minimum of physical stuff if need be,
When the missionary goes to a relatively undeveloped place he cannot afford any modern amenities or they just do not exist. What does he do? He makes do with whatever he has. Life is well and comfortable when he is led by the Spirit of God. Of course I am not referring to those who continue to be bound by the physical elements of this modern world.
Having been engaged in an international corporate world for the major part of his working life, the mindman had been conditioned to live in modern cities, sleep and eat in international hotels, travel by air, work in air-conditioned offices, frequent company’s corporate doctors, associate (even socialize) with corporate clients, suppliers and competitors and so on. He reached a point when he could not differentiate what was mere conditioning and what was real in his life.
However, when he encountered the truth of spiritual reality he marveled how little he valued those amenities. They had left no permanent marks. He could pack an overnight bag at any time and walked away.
How do you apply this wonderful freedom? Well, for a start, appreciate the local food and living environment. Of course you need to train and unwind all your mind’s habits. One good way of ridding old habits is to learn and practice new ones -build a foundation of your new way of life, fit to accommodate new variables in life.
For example, start sleeping and even working in non-airconditioned rooms. Where weather permits go outdoor and adapt to the outdoor air when working or resting. Be a traveler. Like a perpetual travel. That means you are not bound to any form of transport, any language groups, any food, any drink, any bed, any room, any sofa, any washroom/toilet, any TV program, any cafe, any bar, any smell, any taste…etc. O, yes, you need to be exposed to insects and their bites at times. Be prepared in your mind. Be used to sticky heat too, in humid weather that makes you sweat and feel sticky a lot. Be really prepared (through practical weaning) for internet-lessness and mobile-phone-lessness and the effect thereof…
There were many new things for Abraham, the Father of faith, to learn as he walked on according to God’s direction. The mind is a battlefield and he won the battle from the very moment he listened and obeyed the Spirit of the Lord. For the mindman this same key applies. Really, when he thinks about life serioiusly he realizes that there are many old variables in his mind that merely need cleaning up.
Apostle Paul gave very good advice on this subject of adaptation of your mind:
“Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content; I know how to be abased, and I know how to be abound….I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:11-13). “Now godliness and contentment is great gain…and having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.” (1 Timothy 6:6-8)
Jesus Himself declared this state of divine freedom: “the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” (Matthew 8:20b)
Psychology vs. Christianity
A personal note: As my second ‘career’ (voluntary and not paid), I studied wellness promotion and community health administration including Health Psychology in my post graduate academic pursuit. One interesting aspect was the focus on health behavior modification. The tools I acquired were practical in the physical realm and of some use in helping a person to at least focus on and exercise self control over dysfunctional behavior. I ‘practiced’ the tools as a voluntary ‘worker’ and worked with a medical professional. However, we soon found that the main roots of the ‘problems’ were deep within the persons and the rooting out of such deep set stuff needs supernatural means! True enough we use the words of God to help the persons go back to normal functioning for awhile. But in the cases we encountered often they reverted to their old way once they went back to traditional churches which have not yet encountered the power of the Holy Spirit. Even in Charismatic churches when worldly systems are being relied upon and taught, the persons had not been taught or motivated to read the words of God consistently in big chunks, and soon relapsed to old ways.
Healing is really not a physical or mental/emotional matter. It is spiritually rooted and needs spiritual means. The power of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God are the only two sustainable means to transform a person and give him or her a new life (and life more abundant)!
________________________________Psychology vs. Christianity
By Andrew Wommack
Psychology has its roots in ancient philosophers like Socrates, Aristotle, and Plato. None of these men were worshipers of the true and living God. At best, they believed in a god that was not involved in the affairs of men, and at worse they worshiped multiple pagan gods.Modern psychology was brought to the forefront by Sigmund Freud in the late nineteenth century. Freud certainly wasn’t a godly man. He was obsessed with sex and linked every problem of man to the sexual drive. This man had serious problems, even his most devoted followers admitted that.Here is the point: If the root is bad, then the tree has to be bad. Jesus said this very plainly in Matthew 7:17-18:“Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.”The root of psychology is bad, and therefore, the fruit cannot be good. I’m amazed at the acceptance of psychology in our society and especially in the church. Many churches and ministries have resident psychiatrists on staff. This isn’t the approach Jesus took. He met the needs, all the needs of the people through the power of the Holy Spirit, and I believe He intends His church to do the same. They don’t have to depart and go to the world to get their emotional needs met. They should bring them to Jesus (Matt. 14:16-18).I know many Christians are appalled at these statements. Aren’t there Christian psychologists? Certainly there are. I have some friends who are very successful psychologists. But they will be the first to admit that psychology and Christianity do not offer the same answers to our problems. They use their position to bring the truths of the Gospel to people who would never come to the church for help. If the people will receive the truths of God’s Word, they don’t need any other help. If they won’t receive the Gospel, then in some cases, psychology is better than what they have.Christianity and psychology have some things in common: They both state that our actions are the product of inner processes. But in describing what those processes are and how to change them, Christianity and psychology take the opposite approach. For one thing, the very word “psychology” reveals an anti-god approach.The word “psychology” comes from the Greek word “psycho”, which is a derivative of the Greek word “psyche” meaning “soul.” Psychology looks no deeper than the soul of man for answers. It totally ignores the spirit realm: our spirits, God’s Holy Spirit, and demonic spirits. The Word of God is replete with teachings and examples of the influence of God, demons, and our spirits on our actions. Any “answer” that doesn’t take the spirit realm into account isn’t going to the root of the problem. The Greek word “psyche” was also the name of the Greek god of the soul. “eros” and “psyche” were lovers in Greek mythology. Who wants that?Here are four major tenants of psychology that I believe are incompatible with biblical Christianity:1) We are products of our environment.2) Therefore, we are not responsible or accountable for our actions.3) This leads to placing blame for our actions on anything else but on us, making us victims.4) Self-esteem is paramount.Let’s look at these areas in the light of Scripture.First, environment is not the determining factor in who we are and what we do. Proverbs 23:7 says,“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.”The Word of God shows us that OUR thoughts are what make us the way we are. Environment has some influence on your thoughts, but it is totally wrong to say you’re the way you are because of what has happened to you. If that were true, then everyone who has been through the same negative experiences would have the same problems. That’s not so. You can find siblings with the same genetic make-up and environment who respond totally different to the same situation. We always have the choice of becoming bitter or better. God gave us that choice. Deuteronomy 30:19 says,“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.”God said the choice is ours, and what a simple one: life or death. A “no-brainer.” But just in case anyone isn’t sure which to choose, the Lord gave the answer to this quiz. “Choose life,” He said.We are not doomed to be victims because of past experiences. We can be born again and become brand-new people through the power of Christ. Psychology doesn’t offer that.Second, since our conditions are a product of how we chose to react to our environment, we can’t blame others for our problems. Taking responsibility for our actions is the big difference between true Christianity and psychology. Psychology has influenced our society to such a degree that no one is held accountable for their actions. Even murderers are being acquitted because it’s “not their fault”; they were abused as children or whatever. That’s stupid. Some of us have had problems that others haven’t, but God still holds us accountable for our own actions, regardless of what has happened to us.The night before Jesus was crucified, He told His disciples not to let their hearts be troubled but to be of good cheer (John 14:1 and 16:33). Those who hold to the belief that our environment is the determining factor in our emotions and actions would criticize Jesus for telling His disciples to do something they were incapable of doing. But they had a choice. The Lord told us to rejoice in the Lord always (Phil. 4:4). We can choose to go against the pressures of our environment. In John 16:33, Jesus told His disciples,“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”In this passage, Jesus told His disciples that they would have tribulation. What an understatement! They would see Jesus crucified in just a matter of hours. Their hopes would be dashed. Sadness and confusion would overwhelm them. Fear would cause them to live behind locked doors for the next three days. Yet, Jesus told them to be of good cheer. That wasn’t unreasonable; it was doable. And we can do it too if we don’t listen to the psychobabble of today.There is much, much more to Harnessing Your Emotions. I simply ran out of room to share it all in this article. I drew some illustrations of these truths and made an outline of some of the major differences between Christianity and psychology. I firmly believe that psychology undermines true Christianity, and these differences need to be pointed out. Psychology has crept into nearly every aspect of our lives, and most of us don’t know it.Harnessing Your Emotions
We all have emotions, but do they rule us or do we rule them? Psychologists and Christians alike agree that actions are the result of inner thoughts and feelings, emotions. But that is where the agreement ends. The Word says that sin is conceived in our emotions. If that is true, then the Word must also give us a way to harness our emotions. Andrew’s teaching will present you with a new perspective on emotions.
My Real Life (8): my mind is not a bundle of pre-conditioning!
who influences your mind?
who influences your mind?
Today the spiritual mindman deals with the ‘scientific’ way of the natural formation of the mind. Good news and bad news for a nonspiritual mindman.
Good news: you will know how your mind has been formed or is being formed.
Bad news: you will not be able to dematerialize such conditions unless you transform your mind.
First, we define what it means by being scientific (for the nonspiritual realm). Scientific is not a monster or a mystery. It is just a way to explain stuff.
Form a ‘statement’ about something of your concern. Like, (1) this human is obese; and (2) obesity is bad for human. Define your first statement. What do you mean by being obese? Use generally and commonly acceptable standards: predominantly medical in this age. So you use term of measurement like BMI. BMI above … is considered overweight. BMI above … is obese! Gather all relevant information to justify your statement. Measure that particular human and ascertain his or her BMI. Define your second statement: (a) What do you mean by being bad? Use same concept as above. Define your second statement: (b) What do you mean by ‘obesity being bad’? Do as above… until you justify the statement.
Good news for the spiritual human beings:  you are free from the above. So don’t bother to carry the above steps in this article.
How does the mind form itself?
By conditioning. This word is both art and science. The rulers (in spirits) of this age use mind conditioning as its method of influence, controlling practically every field of human living:  science (medical) and art (including psychology) philosophies use it to explain and operate things (including how people should live their lives from birth to death); the commercial world is expert in using it to influence the whole world to buy and sell products and services and lifestyle and values ; the territorial physical rulers (political and power system) in the nations use it to subdue and ensure loyalty and obedience for their own indefinite reign; the education system uses it to ensure its own survival from generation to generation; the religious and cultural system uses it to enforce perpetuity of the common belief and practice of a group of people… the usage list is practically inexhaustible.
If you read the descriptions of official documents, articles and reports written and formulated with careful (not wanting to be accused of being bias or personal) wordings, you will note that the word ‘condition’ is frequently used to substitute a lot of ‘unmentionable’ but ‘real’ (physical) words.
Minds are formed by conditions. Conditioning by the above varieties of influences start the moment one is born into this world. You may think it is you. It is not. You are not a bundle of conditioning! Conditioning of the mind is like making a cake: put in the specified ingredients, mix them, bake them for a specified time. You have your cake. Did the cake make itself? No. Someone else decides what a cake should consist of, and how it should be conditioned.
Did your mind make itself? No. Someone else did it for you.
A really mind boggling and frightening thought that one’s mind is controlled (often manipulated) by another mind(s)! The mindman shuddered to think that the more one reads or watches or is exposed to the products (‘wisdom/philosophies’ of this age) of others’ minds the more his mind will be subject to conditioning by others, including the dead. The godless. The damned. The perished. Many Christians are not aware of this fact. This is what God meant by His chosen people (who should be led by the Holy Spirit) committing adultery when the Israel mingled, followed and adopted the ways of the pagans (controlled by other spirits).
Can you come out of the pre-conditioning? Yes. You can. By the Spirit of God. Yes, be conditioned by the Spirit of God.
Has the mindman applied this? Yes. For example, through living by the Spirit, he has been set free from a lot of ‘must-haves’: air-conditioning; water heater; regular three or five meals a day; special fixed diets; regular fixed hours of sleep; vitamin and nutrition; fixed daily physical exercises; medicine; insurance; using of motor transport; entertainment; regular ( to him, it means excessive) multimedia communication (books, magazines, journals, newspapers, TV, radio, YouTube, telephone, reading any form of written stuff, even operating manuals, any forms of mind influences and manipulations from the conditioning systems as described above.
One may ask, how does the mindman live on then without the above ‘amenities’ or ‘necessities’ ? Of course he lives comfortably and well. The difference of a free mindman and a bound mindman is that the free one is no longer bound by ‘must haves’ or he does not make self-condemning statements like ‘if I don’t have them I will die!” The obsessed mind is not you.
This question is for non-spiritual Christians especially, “How will you survive when the Revelation prophecy comes to pass?”
Bible verses ________________
However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew,..the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit…that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
These things we also speak…which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
But the natural man does not believe the things of the Spirit of God.
But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself if rightly judged by no one.
But we have the mind of Christ.
A dictionary for navigators on spiritual rough waters: chapter twelve: the word today is ‘Now’
the word today: NOW
the word today: NOW
The word today is ‘Now’
When the spiritual mindman looks through his list of spiritual words, he has found these four alphabets missing: N, X, Y, Z.
Today he is determined to navigate through the first word “N” of these uncharted territories as led by the Lord’s Spirit.
_____________________
NOW: This is the Spirit’s immediate choice. Now is really the most important word at this point or any point of one’s existence on earth. Woe is one who cannot live his ‘NOW’. What is life if one waits for the next moment in order to live (or breathe)? Life on earth is the moment that each man lives presently. From the moment God breathed life into you, you are a now person. The moment God withdraws His breath, your ‘now’ is over. Now is a repetitive word. It is the same word but it changes its content with time (from ‘now’ now to ‘now’ in the next moment).
No man can demand that his ‘now’ now be retained as time is not in his hand.
What does God say about ‘now’ does matter, in fact alone matters. Where do we locate all the ‘now’s (particularly their contents) spoken by God so that we may act accordingly?
  1. Look at all the present tenses in the Bible. The statements with verbs of present tense. Verbs are to be acted upon.
  2. Today‘ is synonymous with ‘now’. Hebrews 3:7-8, 15; 4:7 “Today if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.”
  3. Take heed of the ‘afterward‘ warnings. It warns that when the ‘now’ has passed, there will be a consequence for your action or inaction. (note the tragic case of the ‘fornicator or profane person like Esau, Hebrews 12:16-17)
  4. Take heed of the crucial timing of ‘now’ and its contents for the time, spoken by Jesus.
A dictionary for navigators on spiritual rough waters: chapter eleven -faith and hope
Love and faith go hand in hand. Without faith one cannot appropriate the love of God.
Faith: Like love, God initiated this word in us so that we may receive His good gifts. Faith is spiritual, concerning the unseen (in contrast to physical or anything that can be detected by the senses) realm and counting it as real.
Faith is either there or not there. Mind and emotion cannot generate faith. Faith is a supernatural thing. Faith demands 100% allegiance. Either you believe or you do not. Otherwise you produce or receive nothing.
How to have faith? Ask God to give you faith. Ask the Holy Spirit to work the faith in you. Apply faith in action. For example, when you see a symptom of a sickness appearing, just command it to leave in the name of Jesus.
Have faith in God. Only God. When you have faith in God for divine healing, you forego all other forms of healing (described in the Bible as Egyptian way).
Faith is not taking a calculated action. The risk of faith cannot be calculated.
But faith has a source. The source is supernatural. The only source is God.
Faith enables us to see the awesome work of God. “By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” (Hebrews 11:3)
God is pleased with faith and rewards faith. For example: healing, salvation, every spiritual blessings in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, every good gifts, eternal life, victorious life, abundant life!(Hebrews 11:6)
________________________________
Hope: Like love and faith, there is only one source of hope. God.
And now abide faith, hope, love, these three;” Paul declared in his letter to the Corinthian Christians. (1 Corinthians 13:13) Hope comes in between faith and love.
Faith gives assurance to hope. “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)
Faith, hope, and love appear together in Romans 5:1-5.
1 therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.”
Christians are commended for manifesting these three characteristics in their ministry, which evidence they are elected by God:
We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father, knowing, Beloved brethren, your election by God.” (1 Thessalonians 1-4)
Beware of a humanistic view of things
The Believer’s Authority
By Andrew Wommack
Is there someone in your life who just rubs you the wrong way? If there is, it may surprise you to learn that it’s not really that person who is creating the rub. There is someone else at work—your real Enemy—and he may be using them in an attempt to gain an inroad to your life. There is a spiritual war going on, and as a believer, you must be aware of it.
Many Christians have adopted a humanistic view of things. They do not realize the spiritual implication behind what is going on in their lives. What I mean by humanistic is that they only look at things on a surface level. They think most everything they encounter on a daily basis is either physical or natural.
The truth is, there is a battle raging every single day in the spiritual realm. That battle is for your heart and the hearts of every other person on earth. God is trying to influence people and draw them toward righteousness and toward Himself, to live consistent with Him so that His blessings can manifest in their lives.
Satan, on the other hand, is waging all-out war trying to steal the hearts of people away from God. He wants to fill their hearts with his trash and corruption. And honestly, although most Christians recognize this to a degree, I don’t think they realize how intense the warfare really is and how much their actions are contributing to it.
If I could sit and talk with each of you reading this, I would find that many of you aren’t aware of the spiritual significance behind what’s going on in your lives. You attribute much of what is happening to circumstances and therefore passively accept what comes your way. When you do that, you’re ignoring the intense battle that is being waged for your heart every single day.
The choices you make, the things you say, the actions you take, and what you believe about what is happening around you determines whether God or Satan dominates in your life. Satan cannot control you outside of your will. He cannot do anything without your cooperation and consent. But you need to recognize that you’re in a battle.
Many people choose not to believe that, but whether they do or not, the fact is that it’s taking place. Your unwillingness to engage in battle doesn’t mean that the battle isn’t raging; it just means you’re going to lose. But once you realize the battle is real, you can then learn to recognize what’s going on and take the proper action to improve your situation. You can resist the devil.
James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Ephesians 6:10-12 reads,
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
This is referring to demonic powers. There’s a chain of command, an authority structure in the demonic realm, and this is listing these different levels. But notice that it says you are not wrestling against flesh and blood. Much that goes on in your life is not just human.
I’m not going to get into this thing about, “Are people possessed, oppressed, or depressed?” I believe it’s useless to debate that. In the Greek, where the Bible says a person was demon possessed, the word literally means “demonized.” It just means they were under the control of the devil. Christianity has tried to make something out of possessed, oppressed, or depressed. But it’s not in Scripture.
The fact is that people are being influenced and controlled and used by the devil—they really are. This needs to be said because there are a lot of people who honestly believe that all the demons are in Africa.
It’s not the person sitting next to you at work, it’s not your neighbor, and it’s certainly not your husband or your wife that’s the problem. Anyone who is not paying attention can be influenced and inspired and used of Satan to come against you. If you were to recognize that, it would make a huge difference in the way you respond to them.
For instance, I get a lot of hate mail. There was a time when I took what was said personally. But I’ve come to realize that Satan uses these in an attempt to get my attention off of what God has told me to do. Now I look beyond the person, recognizing that Satan is just using them. That allows me to keep it in the right perspective.
I’ve had good friends come against me and do some pretty mean things. And you know what? I was able to look right past what they did and forgive them. I could see that Satan was taking advantage of them to hurt me through some weak area in their lives. When you finally see that, you don’t get angry or bitter with the person, and you are able to walk in forgiveness. Then, when they do turn around, the relationship can be reestablished.
There are also times when you have to engage the Enemy directly, even if the Enemy is using a friend. That’s exactly what Jesus did when He rebuked Peter, saying, “Get behind me, Satan.” That was the same day Jesus asked Peter, “Who do you say I am?” And Peter, inspired by the Holy Spirit, said, “You are the CHRIST, the Son of the living God.”
In Matthew 16:15-17, it says,
He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
After this, Jesus began to talk about what was going to happen to Him: “They’re going to take Me, they’re going to kill Me, and I will rise again on the third day.” And this same Peter, who had been inspired and controlled by the Holy Spirit just moments before, began to rebuke Jesus, saying, “Be it far from You, Lord. This will never happen to You. I’m going to stand here, and the rest of us will defend You. But we are not going to allow this to happen to You.”
Then Jesus turned and spoke these words to Peter: “Get behind me, Satan.” I’m sure Peter was shocked, but Jesus wasn’t really talking to him;He was talking about Satan to Satan, the one who was controlling Peter. Peter’s words were not coming from God; they were inconsistent with the will of God. Peter was being inspired and controlled by the devil in the things he said.
Now, that’s a pretty strong statement, and a lot of people honestly think this is a little over the top. They think they don’t need to respond to people this way. But I can guarantee you that there are times when Satan is speaking directly to you through people. He is using people to get at you. Whether you recognize it or not, this goes on much more than you know. You are in a spiritual war.
I tell you there is a supernatural war waging today for your heart and mind. In fact, for some of you right now, the devil is trying to oppose the words you are reading in this letter. He wants to discredit them and cause you to ignore or reject them. The Holy Spirit, on the other hand, is bearing witness in your heart and trying to get you to open up and receive these words. It’s spiritual warfare.
To win in this war, you must know who you are and the authority you have as a believer. To help, I have a teaching series called The Believer’s Authority. Don’t go another day without understanding how to defeat the real Enemy. You have the power and authority to do it, and now it’s time to use it.
My real life: beware of the mind’s secret agenda!
mind's secret agenda
mind’s secret agenda
It is obvious that every mind has his own agenda. This makes a Bible ‘teacher”s teaching life challenging. Although we all agree that we should be led by the Holy Spirit, who is our real teacher, when it comes to interpreting the Bible, every mind comes forth with its own agenda. Does this mean the interpretation becomes distorted and not aligned with the original God’s words? Often it does distort the intent of the words of God.
We need to be alert against spiritual influences from the enemy’s spirits. For example, a brother in Christ has encountered depressive thoughts because of his sudden Spirit-filled changes which his not-yet-Spirit-filled wife could not accept. Nor can his own not-yet-Spirit-filled church accept him and support him in terms of his renewed discipleship life. For about seven months he alone went through his new life in Christ filled with enthusiasm and zeal for God’s words and God’s kingdom.
The depressive thoughts hit too. The more he is on fire for Jesus, the more the ‘enemies’ pour cold water on him. As he read through the whole Bible, he found identification with the suffering Christ and all verses about suffering. When his church invited speakers he listened to and was touched by testimonies of intense sufferings often from totalitarian regimes (political persecutions), and severe illnesses.
His predisposed mind’s agenda of identification with suffering has preconditioned him to see justification in his personal suffering, and that it glorifies God, justifying his weak position adopted in his family, as changing from it to that of the head of the family is more difficult and he is not prepared for the battle.
How should we view this biased interpretation of the Bible? Do all sufferings identify with the sufferings of Christ? The answer is in the Bible. Since it involves Christ’s suffering, the only right way is to see what Christ’s suffering means in actual Bible verses (not in emotion or feeling or even what we think).
Here are some basic Biblical principles and applications:
  1. The Bible has to be read as a whole (not once but many times and on ongoing basis).
  2. The Bible verses must be read in chunks (whole book, whole chapter, chapters before and after, and all related Bible books and verses in other books of the Bible).
  3. The clear focus is on the Almighty God the Father who is also the Creator, not man. On Jesus who is the Christ, the Son of God, not any other name. On the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of Christ (God). On the redemption plan of God.
  4. God is Spirit. We read to understand on His spiritual terms, not on the terms of our human senses (physiological/mental/emotional).
  5. The Holy Spirit is the only way to understanding God’s words.
  6. The Bible does not give allowance or cover up personal weaknesses that contradict the stated commands of God.
  7. Jesus Christ has given more than sufficient resources in the supernatural realm to each believer to live the full victorious life in total obedience to all the commands written in the Bible. Compliance to one command does not contradict another command. No command nullifies all that Jesus has accomplished on the cross and given to every believer in Christ in the heavenly places.
  8. Power and authority are required to live the superabundant life Jesus has required of His disciples and Jesus has already given them to all who believe.
  9. Jesus Himself only did what He saw the Father did and spoke accordingly. The sufferings he bore were two-fold in the following Bible verses:
A. OVERCOMING SIN: “For He (God) made Him (Jesus) who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him (Christ).” 2 Corinthians 5:21
How did he do it? “And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death on the cross.” Philippians 2:8
B. OVERCOMING DISEASES: “Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness- by whose stripes you were healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.” 1 Peter 2:24-25
JESUS HAD OFFERED HIMSELF ONCE FOR ALL IN HIS SUFFERING, AS THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE SACRIFICE. HE HAD FULFILLED THE HOLY AND RIGHTEOUSNESS REQUIREMENT OF GOD, AS REVEALED IN THE BOOKS OF LAW OF MOSES AND THE PROPHETS.
“Then He (Jesus) said, ‘Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.’” “By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” Hebrews 10:9a-10.
Reading on from Hebrews 10:12-24, we can know that according to the will of God, Jesus had opened our way to God by His blood (the blood of the covenant) and His flesh (body). The Holy Spirit of grace has witnessed this to us.
Jesus’ suffering was part and parcel of the above supernatural salvation package and it had been done. No amount of our own suffering could add to this accomplishment. Jesus’ sacrifice brought glory to the Father as He obeyed and did the will of God.
Coming back to the case of the brother who is being oppressed under the evil spirits of Jezebel and Ahab, is the suffering in accordance to the will of God? What did Elijah (the prophet at that time) do to such spirits? He did not allow himself to suffer under them. He glorified God by obeying God’s Spirit. He was given instructions and protections by the Spirit of the Lord. He did not suffer a bit. later when the spirit of fear followed by the spirit of depression came upon him, the Lord sent His angel to minister to Elijah, who recovered and went on to his next season of ministry.
Was the brother obeying the words of God and was he led by the Holy Spirit? Ephesians 5:22 and Colossians 3:18 clearly stated that Christians wives are to submit to Christian husbands. Like Elijah’s case, he needs to take up the spiritual authority of Jesus Christ and deals with the evil spirits of Jezebel and Ahab.
Was he in obedience to the command of the Lord when he sought to know the will of God and was filled with the Holy Spirit? Ephesians 5:17-18 has the answer. What did Jesus tell His disciples? Luke 10:1-11 details His instructions to the seventy He sent out to ‘harvest’ for the kingdom of God.
Lesson learned: beware of mind agenda influenced by the enemy’s spirits.
On the case of a Christian who suddenly became very sick (with vital organs failing) for forty days in the hospital and recovered despite the doctors’ finding no cause nor treatments to cure him, was the case glorifying God? Which part of the Bible say that such a case of suffering (apparently from spiritual enemies) give glory to God?
What Jesus did over such cases of human being attacked by the evil spirits was very simple. He merely spoke a word and cast them out and stopped the sufferings. He had never spoken a positive word to allow the afflictions to continue. He stated His mission on earth clearly the day He started His earth ministry:
Luke 4:18-19 (ESV)
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Jesus did exactly just that as He had proclaimed, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” Luke 4:21
Ephesians 5:1 “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.”
My real life: the mind is a habit
wave and rock
Daily Practice makes a habit
It takes time and patience to experience a renewal of your mind if you try to use your own efforts. The mindman has discovered. The mind is a habit forming thing. It has taken on years of practices to accumulate a lot of stuff which, unlike physical stuff, cannot be cleaned out by mere physical spring cleaning.
Try as you may, you will still find cobwebs and junks in the forms of thoughts, attitudes, patterns and ways of: perceptions, approaching issues, assessing, valuing, and functioning. All these hamper your decision making.
The modern society has developed clever commercial ways out. Trends and styles and fads. constant changes and increase in varieties and variations have deceived a mind to think that this is renewal or worse, new creation.
Looking behind every change in fashion and fad will see clearly the empty and vain hope without any real substance and depth in terms of change.
Why? Because human mind is just human. The fickleness of the mind has made commercial marketing a thriving viable profession.
The real change does not lie in the commercials.
The real pool of deep water with stagnant stuff needs to be cleaned out and needs deep ‘surgery’ beyond the human mind.
Where? The mindman has discovered that the real change starts deep within, in one’s spirit.
When your spirit is reborn, you become new. The habits in the mind can be removed by the constant washing of water by the Word of God. The habits are of the natural human man and cannot stand the Word which is of the power of the supernatural God. Real transformational power is from God. He is the Creator. He can recreate and form new creation in anything, including all life forms. Life is from God.
Thus, God’s words are life and spirit, just as Jesus had declared. Those who believe can read His words and be transformed by the renewing of the mind, even in areas of deep set habits.
What are mere human habits compared to the creation of many universes? God spoke and they came into being.
“By faith we understand the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.” (Hebrews 11:3)
How to deal with untruth in our mind?
How To Overcome Doubt
By Andrew Wommack
audio teaching on this topic at: http://www.awmi.net/extra/audio/1046
No one is immune to doubt. It can and does happen to us all. You’ve just got to know how to handle it when it comes. Even the greatest men and women of God recorded in the Bible had to deal with doubt. Jesus said of John the Baptist,
“Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist” (Matt. 11:11).
That means John was greater in the sight of Jesus than Abraham, Joseph, Moses, David, or any Old Testament character you can name. Yet John doubted the most important thing of all by questioning whether Jesus was really the Christ.
John the Baptist had been cast into prison for criticizing Herod about marrying his brother’s wife, an incestuous relationship. He had been there sometime between six months and two years and became so discouraged that he asked two of his disciples to go to Jesus and ask Him if He really was the Christ. It’s easy to read that and not think much about it, but the truth is, it was nothing but unbelief on the part of John the Baptist.
Think about who John was. He was separated unto God and filled with the Holy Spirit while he was still in the womb. Even Jesus wasn’t filled with the Holy Spirit from the womb. It is believed he lived in the desert near the Dead Sea with the Essens, the writers of the Dead Sea Scrolls. They were a people who were super-legalistic who dogmatically practiced many rituals of self denial. He certainly had not lived what we would call an easy life. John was separated and focused on his purpose.
His entire life was committed to preparing the way for the Christ. He spent thirty years preparing for a ministry that would only last six short months. John is the one who saw Jesus and said, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world”(John 1:29). The anointing on his life had to be exceptionally powerful because his ministry defied logic. Thousands of people from many nations came to the middle of nowhere to hear this man preach, “Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” And God had revealed to him that through a visible sign from heaven he would know who the Christ was. He would see the Spirit of God descending upon the Messiah in bodily shape as a dove. That came to pass when John baptized Jesus in the Jordan River.
At that time, John was absolutely certain that Jesus was the Christ. He had zero doubt. He was so adamant about it that he said “I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God” in John 1:34. In Luke 3:16 he said, “One mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose.” And in John 3:30 he said, “He must increase, but I must decrease.”
However, after being imprisoned for a period of time, he began to doubt. This says a number of things, but an important one is the fact that anyone can doubt. How did Jesus respond to John’s doubt? Well, He certainly didn’t respond the way most of us do. He told John’s disciples to go back and tell him of the miracles they had witnessed and that John would be blessed if he would just believe. That’s it. Jesus didn’t try and make John feel better by letting him know He understood his pain or by making a few complimentary comments. Jesus reserved those comments till after John’s disciples left (Luke 7:24-28).
This puzzled me for many years. Why didn’t Jesus say these things about John the Baptist in the hearing of John’s disciples so they could have brought him that word? It seemed to me like that would have helped John more than just telling him to look at the miracles, and he’ll be blessed if he believes.
Years after I first had these questions, I was reading from Isaiah 35 and came across the passage that says,
“Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert” (Is. 35:5-6).
It suddenly struck me that this was exactly the answer that Jesus gave to John’s messengers. Look at what Jesus said in Matthew 11:4-6:
“Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.”
Jesus performed all the miracles Isaiah prophesied He would do, and threw in the healing of a leper and raising someone from the dead just for good measure. What Jesus did was He perfectly fulfilled the prophecy about Himself, and then referred John the Baptist back to that word. Jesus reminded John of the scriptures, to deal with his doubts. That’s Jesus’ method of dealing with our doubts.
Many of us have Bibles lying around gathering dust. Some of us even carry one. But when we’re struggling with unbelief, we don’t want a scripture; we want something tangible, something emotional that we can feel. We would rather have Jesus just put His arm around us and say something about how everything will be all right. That would make us feel better. But overcoming doubt isn’t just about feeling better; it’s about getting back into faith that only comes from the Word of God (Rom. 10:17).
Jesus sent the Word back with John’s disciples. He knew this would stir up John’s spirit to overcome the doubt. Peter understood this about faith when he wrote about it in 2 Peter 1:12-15, which says,
“Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. Moreover I will endeavor that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.”
Peter was stating how important it was for his words to be received, as they were, in truth, the Word of God (1 Thess. 2:13). To prove to them that these were not just fables he made up, Peter refers to the time they were with Jesus on the mountain. They saw Jesus shine as the brightness of the sun. The Shekinah glory cloud of God overshadowed them all, and they heard an audible voice out of heaven say, “This is my beloved Son: hear him” (Mark 9:7). They also saw Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus. That is pretty impressive!
But Peter went on to say in 2 Peter 1:19, “We have also a more sure word of prophecy.” What could possibly be more sure than all these supernatural signs? Peter gives that answer in the next verse when he talks about the Scriptures (2 Pet. 1:20). The Scriptures are more sure and more faith building and doubt destroying than seeing Jesus transfigured or hearing an audible voice from heaven. Hallelujah!
The only sure way to overcome doubt is to place your faith in the Word of God and depend on that more sure word of prophecy. Don’t allow your five senses to dominate your thinking. You must come to a place to where God’s Word is more real to you than anything you can see, taste, hear, smell, or feel. When you’re in doubt, refer back to the Word of God just the way Jesus told John the Baptist to do. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word.
There are only two times recorded in the Bible when Jesus marveled at anything. Once He marveled at the people’s great unbelief (Mark 6:6), and in Matthew 8:10 He marveled at a Gentile soldier’s great faith. A faith that made Jesus marvel is worth examining. What was different about it? The number one difference was what the centurion said,
“But speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.” (Matt. 8:8-9)
The centurion had a faith that was in God’s Word alone. He didn’t have to have Jesus come to his house and wave His hand over the sick servant. If Jesus would just give him a word, that was all he needed.
Contrast this centurion’s faith with the little faith of Thomas, who was one of Jesus’ twelve disciples. The first time the risen Christ appeared to His disciples, Thomas wasn’t present. The other ten disciples told Thomas that Jesus was resurrected, but it was eight more days before Jesus appeared to His disciples with Thomas present.
“But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.” (John 20:25)
Jesus walked up to Thomas and told him to put his finger into the print of the nails and thrust his hand into Jesus’ side and to not be faithless but believing. Thomas fell on his knees and confessed Jesus as his Lord and God.
“Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” (John 20:29)
Jesus placed a greater blessing on those who believe without seeing than those who believe because they have seen. In other words, there is a greater anointing on believing the Word than believing signs and wonders. Don’t get me wrong. I believe in signs and wonders. Jesus used them like a bell to draw people unto Himself and so should we. But the ultimate, the more sure word of prophecy, is the written Word of God. There is a greater blessing on just believing God’s Word than there is on believing because of supernatural circumstances. Those who are looking for circumstances to confirm their faith will fail when the strong battles of unbelief come. We have to get our faith so rooted in God’s Word alone that we can withstand a hurricane.
The reason Jesus didn’t try to make John feel better with a few kind words, an emotional touch, was not because He didn’t care. He cared for John so much that He gave John His best — the written Word of God. That’s how Jesus dealt with own His temptations (Matt. 4), and that was and still is God’s best way for us to deal with our temptations to not believe.
Maybe there’s a reason the Lord hasn’t used an emotional touch to deliver you from unbelief. Maybe it’s because He loves you so much that He’s trying to help you operate in the highest form of faith — faith that takes Him at His Word. If the least of the saints today are greater than John the Baptist was then (Matt. 11:11), surely the Lord is wanting us to operate on at least the same level in which He dealt with John’s unbelief.
My Real Life – confession of a transformed mind
be transformed by renewing the mind
be transformed by renewing the mind
The mindman discovered that we exist by the mind of God.
The mindman found this in his old draft. He updated and completed the post on this day of 5-27-2013. This is a confession of a transformed mind.
______________________________On the first day of this last month of 2012, the mindman thought of existence.
He has realized for quite sometime that he could not exist by thinking, although some philosophies preach that one thinks therefore one exists or one exists therefore one thinks.
The mindman’s mind has been renewed by a major spiritual transformation. It was not a natural event. It could not be explained in words. He then started to be aware that his existence goes beyond the soul (mind and emotion). Here is an excerpted account in the mindman’s journal.
______________”My existence”. (a rather self-focus narration here)
To be real is very important to me. I used to think that being real means I can think for myself. But now I know thoughts can be deceptive. Only the motives (intents) behind the thoughts reveal what the truth is. What I think does not necessarily mean it is real. No matter how much I think or how intensive I think, the thoughts could not make me real.
What is my real life? Where is this real life? Where does it come from? How should I find it?
When I argued over my case as a human existence, I ran out of words. Not that I had no more vocabularies, the words came out as mere sounds, without any substance. I knew they were unreal. There was no basis for thoughts to claim any existence unless they were backed by something more authoritative. What could be the authority from whom I could assure of my reality in thoughts 100%?
None. None in the human natural realm.
Medical (including physiological/psychological/mental) science could not prove my existence except certain agreed discernible signs that are used universally by the profession for their practice.  Spiritual realm is not accounted for when such signs that can be discerned by our human senses are used to measure life.
I have no human answer. I cannot ignore the truth that my answer is in the supernatural and spiritual realm, where a reality of my existence exists.
_______________________________
In real life experience of the mindman, human natural way cannot give account to how a dead man can be raised to life after being certified dead six hours ago after fervent prayers by loved ones and friends. In another case of a brain dead man, he also woke six hours later after fervent prayers by his wife and a group of Christians who happened to be around attending a worship service. He was up and about totally without damage and lived on with his wife and four little children like any other healthy man. One elderly vegetable seller woke and regained everything she had lost mentally and physically after she lost all memory and was bed ridden for months. She was completely restored because someone gave her husband a CD on divine healing by Jesus and played to her day and night. Both the lady and her husband became Christians after that. She was not only made well she was given big bonus in her mind and spirit. She read the whole Bible six times within a year.
The list of supernatural mind recovery and restoration is endless. in a small limited circle the mindman has already encountered many minds being healed and some even being given supernatural upgrading!
As part of his quest since young teen to study and understand the matters of the mind, the mindman has spent his recent years observing and noting the increase in frequency of such unnatural occurrences. One thing he has learned and has also practiced is effective prayer. He has found that his prayers get increasingly answered.
He has reached the point of believing that all the words of the Bible are truth and spoken by God. He believes that “every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no  variation or shadow of turning. Of His own free will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of His creatures.” (James 1:17-18)
Thus he is drawn to practice living the life of the new creation. In real life. He knew the verse about new creation in 2 Corinthians 5:17 more than 30 years ago. But he did not know then how to live the new life. Now he knows. What has caused the change? The transformation started when he began to believe and encounter the reality of the spiritual realm. He has had the true renewal of his mind through believing and opening to the transformational power of the Holy Spirit. He has started to believe that all the words of God are truth and can be practiced in the physical and mental realm.
______________the transformational verses: Romans 12:1-2
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
1 Corinthians 2:16 “But we have the mind of Christ.”
What Generation are you in?
Gen Y Self Generation
Gen Y Self Generation
Today’s Bible word is GENERATION. The spiritual question is: What generation are you in? There are only two to choose from. Either you are in one or you are in the other. As all are in “this generation”, this question must be answered by all. Tip: choose number 31!
  1. Matthew 11:16
    But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their companions,
  2. Matthew 12:39
    But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.
